The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) as a team with ONE and the Elliott family look for passages for the inaugural 2017 Michael Elliott Award for Excellence in African Storytelling. Mike served as a recognized manager at The Economist, Newsweek and Time before getting to be CEO of ONE. Recently, he had talked about his fantasy to set up a honor that would unite his confidence in extraordinary news coverage with his dedication to advance in Africa.
This yearly honor in his name will respect a best in class columnist in Africa who recounts imperative stories through quality reporting.
The honor victor will get a $5,000 money prize to seek after an inside and out reporting venture. The champ will likewise invest energy in U.S. newsrooms to learn new abilities and get mentorship from ICFJ, catalyzing extra reporting that draws in and enables Africans.
• The challenge is interested in exceptional, English-talking columnists working for print, communicate and online news media situated in Africa.
• Applicants must present a distributed story or arrangement that reflects first rate narrating about essential issues.
• Submissions can incorporate component stories; top to bottom, investigative or informative pieces; or sight and sound reports or documentaries.
• Published stories or communicates must be submitted in English. Works in different dialects must incorporate English interpretations.

A recognized jury will choose the inaugural honoree. The victor will be declared March 15, 2017, and will be regarded at ICFJ’s Board Dinner in New York on May 31, 2017.
